CFS in Manitoba

In Manitoba, the child and family services system is administered by four Child and Family Services Authorities. These include:

  • The First Nations of Southern Manitoba Child and Family Services Authority
  • The First Nations of Northern Manitoba Child and Family Services Authority
  • The Métis Child and Family Services Authority
  • The General Child and Family Services Authority

The Child and Family Services Standing Committee is comprised of the CEOs from the four Authorities and the Director of Child and Family Services. The Standing Committee is the advisory body with legislated responsibility for promoting cooperation and collaboration across the CFS system and with other systems. The work of Standing Committee continues to focus on three major areas:

  • Continuing implementation of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry – Child Welfare Initiative (AJI-CWI)
  • Implementation of the Changes for Children initiative
  • Ongoing system development

The CEOs from the four Authorities and the Director of Child and Family Services for the Province of Manitoba – the Standing Committe – have legislated responsibility for promoting cooperation and collaboration across the system, and are focused on: Continuing implementation of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry – Child Welfare Initiative (AJI-CWI), implementation of the Changes for Children initiative, and ongoing system development.
